Lee is the drummer for a long time for Motley Crue. He has also formed Methods of Mayhem, a hip-hop metal group. The musician has also explored solo musical ventures. Lee is an avid PETA advocate and an ardent advocate for the rights of animals. In 2010, Lee wrote a letter to Terry Prather, the president of SeaWorld, protesting the treatment of Tilikum the orca. Lee considered that the animal ought to be released and stated that SeaWorld would not permit this to happen since Tilikum is their most important donor of sperm. Lee expressed his disgust at SeaWorld's inept and bizarre methods to obtain Tilikum fertile. Lee concluded that he wished to prevent further tragedies of trainers dying, since these tragedies were caused by the whales' distaste for being held in captivity.
